As the largest, locally-owned tree removal company in the Twin Cities Metro, you can count on the experts at Rainbow Treecare to safely remove trees and stumps from your property. With over 45 ISA Certified Arborists on staff, specialized equipment, and expertise at large removals, no tree or stump removal job is too big for our team.
We will evaluate the structure and location of your tree to develop the safest removal process, including the necessary equipment, for your unique situation. Considerations may include an aerial lift bucket, cranes, specialized rigging systems, and a “clam” truck to remove your tree quickly, safely, and with minimal disturbance to the surrounding area. All of our removal services include a thorough cleanup, minimizing the impact on your landscape as much as possible.
Please note: We are unable to accept new customers for ash tree removal at this time due to the large volume of dead ash trees. Join our waiting list if you need an ash tree removed and have not worked with Rainbow in the past. We are still able to perform all other services for new customers.

What can you expect from our tree and stump removal services?
First, one of our ISA Certified Arborists will visit your property to evaluate the tree’s condition, location, and accessibility to determine what resources, including specialized equipment, are needed for your tree removal. Note that stump removal is a separate service that requires a different crew and specialized equipment. For stumps, we consider the size of the stump, the length and number of surface roots, and the level of restoration to the area.
Next, you will receive a detailed estimate for the removal of your tree or stump. We will explain how your tree or stump will be removed so that you don’t have any surprises. Your arborist can answer questions regarding the estimate at any time throughout the removal process. Our office staff will provide ongoing communication on the timing of your removal.
All of our removal services include:
- Coordination with the electric utility company for line drop or service interruption as needed
- Obtaining any permits required by the Minnesota city in which you live
- Notifying neighbors on the day of the removal when needed
- Hauling and disposal of all debris
- For tree removals, we cut the stump as close to the ground as possible
- Coordination with other utilities, including underground locations for stump removals

Additional frequently asked questions about tree and stump removal:
Our experts take every precaution to protect your lawn and landscaping. We work around obstacles, such as retaining walls, fences, gazebos, and other important yard structures. Depending on the size and location of your tree, turf areas may temporarily show some wear and tear, and large branches and logs can leave dents or divots on soft ground. We rake and blow to remove debris; however, some sawdust may remain.
Our expert arborists have undergone training to work around and near electrical hazards. While they are not electricians, they can distinguish between safe and unsafe work zones. We will coordinate with your electric company if necessary to ensure the ultimate safety measures.
We will request a clearance trim from the power company to ensure the tree is safe for our workers for the main pole-to-pole lines. For service lines that run from a pole to a building, we will arrange a free “line drop” so that the wires are out of our way while we work.
A hazardous tree is a tree that has a greater potential to break apart or fall, causing harm to people or damage to property. These are often trees damaged in storms, severely infested with a pest such as emerald ash borer, or that have begun to rot. Our team is trained to properly assess a hazardous tree and develop a removal plan that prioritizes the safety of all.
Even after stump grinding, many roots remain in the ground. Replanting in the same place is possible if you wait a few years for the woody roots to decompose or if you hand-dig roots out of the ground. Some landscapers use specialized equipment to plant trees, making it easier to use the same spot. If you’re planting a tree on your own, a simple solution is to plant 5-10 feet away from the location of the previous tree’s trunk.
Yes! Our experts will help you select the perfect tree and plant it using a revolutionary method that is superior for establishing tree roots. Learn more about tree planting.
Our standard procedure is to chip and haul away all debris from tree removals. If you choose, we can leave the wood behind. Cutting wood into firewood-size pieces is labor-intensive and increases the cost.
Absolutely not! Rainbow Treecare is fully insured. While we take every precaution to avoid any damage, tree removal is a service that comes with some risk. If our work damages your home or property, or even your neighbor’s home or property, you will not be liable. We will communicate and coordinate the resolution of any damage should it take place during our service.
We deliver our wood waste to several facilities in the Twin Cities. Some facilities convert wood waste into energy. Others recycle the wood to be reused as mulch, compost, or reclaimed wood products.
