Savage Discount Program for Emerald Ash Borer Prevention
Emerald Ash Borer was first confirmed in Savage in January 2021 and was found in neighboring Prior Lake in August of 2015. Like most Minnesota cities, Savage has an abundance of ash trees growing on public property and in parks. In preparation for the inevitable arrival of emerald ash borer (EAB), the City of Savage has contracted with Rainbow Treecare to treat public ash trees growing along streets and in parks. This partnership offers a city-wide discount for any privately owned trees in Savage.
You can protect your ash tree for 20 years for less than the cost to remove and replace it.
What are My Choices if I have an Ash Tree?
If you have an ash tree, now is the time to decide what to do. Ash trees can either be protected or removed. Savages encouraging residents to treat large, well-placed, healthy private ash trees as part of an EAB treatment program. Considerations for Treatment:

- Is the size of your tree is greater than 10” in diameter?
- Is your tree competing with other trees or infrastructure?
- Does your tree show no more than 30% of canopy decline if an infestation is suspected?
Most importantly, treating an ash tree is more cost-effective than removal. In addition, you maintain the tree benefits and value of a mature tree to your property!
