Oakdale Discount Program for Emerald Ash Borer Prevention
Emerald Ash Borer was confirmed in Oakdale in January 2019. Previously, it was found in the bordering cities of Woodbury (2017), White Bear Lake (2017), and Maplewood (2017). Like most Minnesota cities, Oakdale has an abundance of ash trees growing on public and private property. In preparation for the arrival of Emerald Ash Borer, the city has partnered with Rainbow Treecare to treat public ash trees in parks and boulevards. This partnership also offers a city-wide discount for any privately owned trees in Oakdale.

You can protect your ash tree for 20 years for less than the cost to remove and replace it.
If you have an ash tree, now is the time to decide what to do. Ash trees can either be protected or removed. Oakdale is encouraging residents to treat large, well-placed, healthy private ash trees as part of an EAB treatment program. Considerations for Treatment:
- Is the size of your tree is greater than 10” in diameter?
- Is your tree competing with other trees or infrastructure?
- Does your tree show no more than 30% of canopy decline if an infestation is suspected?
Most importantly, treating an ash tree is more cost-effective than removal. In addition, you maintain the tree benefits and value of a mature tree to your property!
