Looking to Improve the Health of Your Tree?
Rainbow Treecare has developed an exclusive Root Enhancement System that improves urban tree environment and health.
The health of your trees depends on the health of the roots. Normal family use of your yard can contribute to tree decline by creating hard, compacted soil, limited root space, and declining nutrients.Contact the Experts
When to use the Root Enhancement System
- If your tree has limited area to grow roots
- If your soil has been compacted, whether due to age, traffic, or construction projects
- If your landscape is lacking nutrients
- If your trees are struggling to thrive
What is the Root Enhancement System?
Step 1: The surface mulch, dirt, and landscape fabric around the tree trunk is removed and structural roots at the base of the tree are exposed. Roots growing in a circular pattern (girdling roots) are cut or redirected to promote proper root development.
Step 2: Roots within a 3-7 foot radius of the trunk are exposed and treated with organic matter. The formula of the organic matter is specifically chosen for your tree.
Step 3: After the soil has been amended a drip hose is installed around the base of the tree. Hardwood mulch is applied on top of the entire root enhancement area, leaving your landscape looking natural and attractive. Water is essential to assist root development. The area needs to be kept well-watered for the first two weeks following the procedure.
What is Incorporated in?
During the Root Enhancement System process, we incorporate different organic materials to benefit your tree.
Prescription Organic Matter
Prescription Organic Matter (POM) is a mixture of biologically active organic compounds derived from prescriptive composting processes.
High quality natural nutrients within POM are screened to ensure integrity, consistency, and quality.
Originally created by plants and other organisms, these compounds play a variety of roles in many biological cycles. The nutrients released from these former plants are 100% natural because of their original formation through photosynthesis.
Different mixtures of POM are available for both fast and slow release of nutrients. Some POM formulations also have a higher nutrient content than others because of their ingredients. For example, the POM used on a residential lawn is a slower-release formula that fertilizes your lawn as it is improving the biological activity in the soil.
Biochar
Biochar is charcoal made from woody plant material. It is used as a soil amendment to improve soil quality.
Charcoal has long been used for its ability to absorb odors and toxins. Additions of biochar to soils increases the water retention of sandy soils and improves porosity of clay soils.
Biochar also helps combat climate change as it converts urban wood waste to a stable form of soil carbon; by creating healthier growing trees it helps sequester additional carbon in the form of woody tree tissue.
