Protect Your Beautiful Oak From Oak Wilt
1 ) Treat preventively with a macro-infusion treatment of Alamo® fungicide
- Red Oak Group: Preventively treat symptom-free trees that are within root graft distance (50 feet) of an infected red oak tree.
- White Oak Group: Bur and white oaks may be treated preventively or therapeutically.
Trees within the trench line, trees that cannot be trenched, and small groups of trees are good candidates for Alamo® macro-infusion. This is a tree injected treatment therapy applied by a licensed applicator. Scientific research conducted at Texas A&M, University of Minnesota, and US Forest Service has shown this treatment is the most effective tool for managing oak wilt and will provide protection for many trees that would otherwise be at risk of becoming infected with the disease.
2 ) Isolate and Remove Infected Trees
- Physically cut (trench) any grafted roots between infected and healthy trees.
- Remove all dying or recently killed (within 1 year) red oaks after trenching for root grafts.
- Remove the bark of red oaks that are to be used for firewood or seal the pile with plastic for one year to kill the fungus and prevent contaminated beetles from escaping and infecting other oak trees.
