The Urban Forestry Institute at Rainbow Treecare was initiated in 2002 to create a venue for advancing the scientific knowledge of tree health in the Twin Cities. With the addition of Dr. John Lloyd as the Director of Science at Rainbow Treecare in 2007 our educational programs have reached a new level of experience and expertise. In 2008 the Urban Forestry Institute is proud to offer three outstanding educational programs for anyone interested in learning about trees and their environment. Each of these courses has been approved for continuing education credits through the International Society of Arboriculture for professional arborists and has also been registered as a foundation course for our Urban Forestry Institute curriculum. As we continue to develop our educational offerings, these courses will provide credits for professional educational certificates and degrees.
The offerings for 2008 are:
UFI 010: Arborist and Tree Worker Certification Training. Teaches the basic information needed to complete the ISA Arborist and Tree Workers certification exams. [download brochure]
UFI 100: Urban Tree Identification. Learn the most important identification characteristics of urban trees "in Minnesota". Be ready to look at bark characteristics and bud scars. Leaf identification is for summer wimps. [download brochure]
UFI 102: Tree Care Pest Management. Utilize the knowledge of insects and diseases of trees to manage them in an ecologically sustainable manner. [download brochure]
All of these courses are offered to the first 60 registrants and there are no required prerequisites. We look forward to sharing the educational experience with all of our friends of trees.
Sincerely,
John E. Lloyd, Ph.D.
