Evaluating Storm Damage Problems
You may see:
- Leaning trees

Unless the tree is very young or newly planted, most trees that are leaning have experienced moderate to severe root damage. This causes them to be very unstable and can create a dangerous situation. We recommend evaluation by a certified arborist. - Hanging or fallen branches
Broken and hanging branches that need a ladder to reach should be removed by a professional tree trimmer. Stubs or partial branches left on a tree should be cleanly cut in the appropriate area. Again, we recommend any storm damage that requires a ladder, to be undertaken by an experienced and licensed arborist. - Split trunks or limbs

The severity and location of the split will determine what can be done to treat this problem. In some instances cabling or bracing may be able to extend the life of the tree, in most instances removal of the branch or tree is necessary. We do not recommend dealing with this on your own. - Fallen trees
Removal will be necessary. Depending on size and access, professional help may be recommended. - Trees stripped of their leaves/Leaf loss
Generally trees will regenerate leaves without lasting negative effects. It may take a full growing season to see the canopy entirely restored. If defoliation (leaf loss) happens repeatedly, it can affect tree health. In some cases, fertilization or supplemental nutrients may be recommended to increase tree vigor. - Trees or parts of trees on buildings
In cases of large or mature trees, we recommend a professional analysis of the situation. If tree health is not compromised, it may be possible to keep the tree with skillful trimming of the parts on or touching the building.
